What I’ve Been Up To

During my first three weeks of being an intern, I have learned so many things. I have been doing so many different activities. I have been working in a very fast paced environment where we switch topics very frequently. I love working at the Dodge City/ Ford County Development Corporation because of how friendly everyone is. Some things that I like to do is make flyers, invites, and brochures for marketing purposes. I’ve sat in on a couple of trainings that talked about career success, social media, and online marketing. These trainings taught me how to be a professional and how to most effectively use social media to promote your business. Both trainings were so informational and I can’t wait to attend more. We have at least one meeting per day. Most days we have three or four meetings. I learn so much about what makes a community function and who puts on what events.

The internship has also helped me meet so many people and even got me out of my comfort zone. I am usually uncomfortable talking to people on the phone, but one of the days I was told to make about 60 phone calls. I was so nervous, but afterwards I realized that it wasn’t that bad and I would actually do it again. I’ve learned about and talked to so many businesses in town that I didn’t even know existed. Overall, in these past three weeks, I feel like I have learned so much and grown as a person.

My goal for this internship is to have good oral communication overall. I sometimes try to avoid conversation with people I don’t know because I feel like I will embarrass myself. With this internship I talk to so many new people and I feel like I am becoming more confident. I cant wait to see how much my communication skills improve at the end of this internship. My leadership goal would be to be more adaptable and be able to handle changes better. Sometimes I get overwhelmed when things change. I need to be more open to change and I think my internship will help me with that because things are always changing in the office and in our community. I would like to meet so many more people during my internship. I attend so many meetings where I do not know very many people in attendance, but I would like to put myself out there and introduce myself and learn their names. I’m excited for the next couple of weeks to see how much I will accomplish.
