I am a senior in high school at Ascension Academy in Amarillo, Texas. I am in track and volleyball at school and in kickboxing outside of school. I have medaled at Regional and State Track Meets. I enjoy spending time outside with my dog, Murray, an adorable yellow lab who is my best friend, as well as my family, and my friends. When I’m not at home or outside, I am watching movies with friends, getting coffee, working, or at people’s houses hanging out.
I live on a lake, so I kayak and fish all the time (when I have time). I also like painting and sewing. They are the stress relievers that help me when I have had a rough day in the clinic or at school. I am President of both my Student Council and my local Venture Crew. Venture Crew is a coed program through Boy Scouts that teens get to be part of that teaches leadership and outdoor skills as well as going on campouts and doing other fun things in the community.
I am interning at Northwest Texas Hospital in the Trauma Orthopedics Clinic shadowing a Dr. both in the clinic and during surgery. The patients I see are all the result of traumatic events that had unplanned surgeries due to their injuries. I spend all my time watching and learning, which is a step up from last summer’s job where I scanned and answered the phone all day every day.
My goal for communication is to learn to speak up and ask questions instead of googling things at the end of the day. I want my leadership skills to improve by learning to take charge when I feel like I’m not heard. My hope in this internship is to create relationships that will help me throughout college, med school, and beyond.
