Off to the Market by Anne Akers-Lewis

Anne & cansI am from Michigan and moved to Colorado twenty-seven years ago. Woodland Park has been my home for the last seventeen years. I love the mountains and the climate here and work to preserve the environment.
After being laid off from the legal publishing company where I had worked for many years, I returned to school for my second bachelor’s degree, this time in Health Care Science. Some of my greatest passions include health and environmental sustainability. I practiced taekwondo for twenty-one years, teaching for thirteen of them. I like to hike in the woods with my border collies, attend exercise classes, practice speaking Spanish, and playing guitar.
My part-time position as Assistant Activities Director at an adult day care is gratifying, and I enjoy helping the clients there. Serving as secretary of the Keep Woodland Park Beautiful Committee is a volunteer position I hold as well.
My long-term career goals include promoting good health through physical activity, good nutrition, and a sustainable environment.

Beets & BC'sAn internship with the Teller County Farmers’ Market Association (https://www.wpfarmersmarket.com/) can further those goals by providing experience working with local farmers, vendors, and other partners in the community to expand the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program at the market. Increasing consumption of local produce by individuals at lower socioeconomic levels will benefit them and the environment. Enhancing the recycling program at the market will also help me reach my goals. The farmers’ market combines health and the environment into the perfect blend of my two greatest passions.
