Hello, it is Tristyn again. I have been working for about three or four weeks now and I am doing many different things for the Chamber of Commerce here in Clovis. The biggest thing that I plan for the Chamber is the High Plains Junior Rodeo Finals. This is the one event that I pretty much do by myself. While planning this event I assign contestants RV spots, stalls, and admission passes. I also get sponsors and find different vendors to sell their products during the rodeo. One of the more fun things I get to do is the media part of the rodeo. I can advertise it and tell everyone just a little bit about what is going on.
Our community also plans a Fourth of July celebration called Smoke on the Water. I help get things ready for that and find sponsors. The Music Festival is also a very big event that comes to town each year. I help with the organizing of the bands, sponsors, and advertising. All of these events let me interact with the public and meet lots of new people. I have learned how to use many different computer programs. The communication skills I have learned through this internship will benefit me for the rest of my life. Another event we help with is Draggin Main, which is when everyone comes out and drives our Main Street in town. This is just a fun event, that helps the youth get to have a little taste of what our parents or grandparents did when they were young. The Chamber sells tickets for vendors and just advertises this event like crazy. This was only started a few years ago and has become a huge event here in Clovis.
