Community Service. This word can bring different thoughts to mind. Some people may think it is something they are forced to do. Some may find it to be a burden, but for others, giving back to their community brings them great joy. I am someone who finds great joy in giving back. Community service is an easy and inexpensive way to make a positive impact! For my community service, I helped organize a local estate sale and helped a young girl with her photography project.
The estate sale was a huge hit in the community! There were thousands of items and I feel as though the sale really helped our community. It allowed our community to come and shop at inexpensive prices. This is something that I find very important. Not everyone can afford to buy a brand new bed set, but at garage and estate sales, you can typically find very nice, hardly used sets for very little. This was especially true for the specific garage sale that I helped organize. There was such a large abundance of different items. I chose to help with the estate sale because I have always loved estate/garage sales. They are a great place to find treasures! They are also a great opportunity to bond with family and friends, whether you are shopping at one or helping at one. The most challenging part of this project was the heat. We were in an un-air-conditioned room when organizing items, and it was extremely hot. It was very important that we all stayed hydrated. I think the estate sale gave people from every walk of life the opportunity to find something they either needed or were wanting! Being able to help someone organize their estate sale, especially when it is someone with a genuinely kind heart, is a very rewarding feeling.
I was asked by a girl in my 4-H Club to help her with her photography project. I had been very active in this project for a number of years, and out of all of the projects, this one was by far my favorite. Helping the young girl with photography was so enjoyable because it gave me a chance to help the future and look back at the past! I was given the opportunity to look at my old photos, research, and give her tips so she would know what the judges would be looking for! I chose to help the young girl with her photography project, because it is hard to start something new, and unlike me, she didn’t have older siblings to show her the way. She is such a nice girl and I hope she loves doing the photography project! Helping the young girl with photography was so rewarding because it is always good to help and direct young people!! Sadly, I did not get any photos of myself doing either activity.
