Blog 4: My Community Service Hours

The community of Holyoke has done so much for me, and while doing my community service hours, I found that giving back to the community can be really enjoyable. I found many ways to earn my community service hours, and I had fun doing all of them.

A few days before Memorial Day, our local Lion’s Club places flags on the graves of war veterans. My Ag teacher told everyone in FFA about the opportunity, and I thought that it would be a great way to earn hours. Doing this was an honor. Anything that has to do with thanking or helping our United States’ Veterans, I will always be willing to help out with.

Another activity I did to earn hours was helping with a local golf cart wash. People would pay $10 for us to wash their golf cart, and that is what we did. On a hot day, this was really nice. The proceeds went to our high school volleyball team to help pay for summer camps.

I also helped out at our summer swim team’s swim meet. I’m not on the team, but I am a swimmer myself, so anything to help the team out, I enjoy. Myself, and a few of my friends ran the snow cone machine. We made snow cones for all of the swimmers at the meet (and we also ate a few ourselves).

All of these were great ways to earn my community service hours, and I really enjoyed each and every one of them. I love giving back to the community, and these were great ways to do them!
