More than being a very friendly small town, Borger has a lot to offer. It has several examples of all twelve key assets of commonwealth. Borger has several events that showcase our town’s art and culture. One of the most prominent of these events is the annual “Beach Bash.” During this event, local vendors of all kinds fill the streets, along with a car show, live local bands, and a block-long sand pit for the main attraction, a beach volleyball tournament. This event brings the whole town together to celebrate the people that make Borger unique. Borger also is no slouch in the way of education. With Three elementary schools, and a star-studded middle school and high school, Borger offers not only variety, but quality. The most prominent of these schools is of course, Borger High School. BHS offers almost every sport, academic, or social there is. A thriving fine arts program and UIL academics team are the crown jewels of Borger High’s achievement, with multiple state qualifiers in almost every event from UIL mathematics and number sense, to band and choir state solo and ensemble contest. Borger is also home to many farms and ranches the most prominent being the legendary Four Sixes Ranch, just a few miles out of town. From sprawling corn fields to vast rolling ranch land, Borger certainly holds its own when it comes to food production and agriculture. Borger also offers several recreation opportunities. The biggest one of these being the Johnson Park Youth Center, which offers a pool, a gym, a full size basketball court, and a rock climbing wall. If you drive anywhere right outside of Borger you will notice the vast wind farms that provide renewable energy to cities downstate such as Dallas and Austin. Borger also has a very interesting, if not pristine, history. Borger started its life as a boomtown. People came to Borger in droves looking to strike it rich and live out their lives in opulence. However Borger soon fell to the same fate of lawlessness and anarchy that befell many similar boomtowns of the era. Though Borger eventually retuned to law and order it was not without the loss of its founder, A.B “Ace” Borger. Borger is also home to several family medical practices, a hospital, and a Life Flight air ambulance station. There is no shortage of churches in Borger. There are over twenty different places of worship for many different denominations. Some of the more prominent among these are Grace Fellowship Church, Faith Covenant Church, First Baptist Borger, and Saint John’s Catholic Church. The agricultural aspect of Borger keeps the soil nourished and healthy by growing many different crops to keep the soil full of nutrients. Many Ranchers also winter cattle on Farmers’ land with winter wheat which also keeps the soil from stagnating over the winter months. Due to Borger’s unpredictable climate we are no stranger heavy rain and severe storms. the water cycle in Borger usually stays very healthy. Borger is home to many types of wildlife such as deer, antelope, coyotes, and countless other types of animals. More important than all of this though, is the fact that Borger is home. Not only is it unique, but it sets itself apart by its warm and loving community. Borger is an incredible town and i am proud to live here.
