Blog 2: What my summer will consist of

This is my second year doing an internship through Ogallala Commons and both have dealt closely with the medical field. This year I am doing my internship at Plains Memorial Hospital in Dimmitt, Texas. I was particularly excited to be able to do the internship in Dimmitt because it is just 15 minutes away from my hometown of Hart. I have only been working for a short amount of time and already I have learned so much! I have used lots of skills and knowledge I learned in Introduction to Nursing Skills at WT in the spring but I have also learned a few tricks of the trade from the staff at Plains Memorial. Everyone I work with is so friendly and welcoming. They all are just as excited to have me there as I am to be there. I enjoy the company of the entire staff as well as the patients at the hospital. At my time at Plains Memorial I have got the chance to perform Certified Nurse’s Assistant duties such as changing bedsheets, feeding patients, assisting with hygiene, and helping to ambulate patients. I have also learned how to properly document patient activity in to the computer for the RN’s and doctors to review. I have also been able to observe and learn from the RN’s. We have a charge nurse, a med nurse and sometimes an ER nurse. They rotate around and help each other out when needed. The environment at Plains Memorial Hospital is a wonderful place to jump start my career path of nursing.
