What I’ve Been Up To

By: Correy Koellner

In my current internship, I have been helping to get Welcome to Holyoke bags created and planning the Dandelion Daze events. I worked on calling vendors to discuss Food Cottage licenses from the Health Department. I also worked on contacting sponsors and picking up banners from them for advertisement purposes. Once the event came around, I was able to set up the barricades for the beer garden and help run the corn hole tournament. The next day of Dandelion Daze was the car show, so I helped to get people signed in. I also got to help get the bounce houses for the kids and work on setting that up. I have since been working on updating the new chamber website. The next step is to begin planning for the upcoming barbecue

. My goal for communication is to get better at phone conversations. Phone calls can be harder because there is only a voice to read, rather than facial expressions. I would like to get better at making the calls and also seem more professional with polite conversation. In leadership, I want to be able to become more decisive with my decision-making skills. By having things go wrong in event planning, it can really enhance in the moment problem-solving skills, which is also something I wish to work on. I would also like to make better connections with business owners throughout my community. This can be done through both leadership and professional networking. By listening to people’s problems around me, I can offer realistic solutions, therefore building my credibility in the problem-solving area.
