“Turning Lives Around, One Success at a Time…”

mugshot

Hello Ogallala Commons! My name is Cristina Vargas and I come from the small town of Spearman, Texas. I moved to Canyon three years ago to start my journey in college achieving a degree in communication disorders. I just graduated this past May with my bachelors of science in communication disorders and have decided to take the year off to work as an assistant speech therapist. I plan to apply to a few graduate programs this coming fall, but before I do I have been interested in getting experience in the field. I was blessed enough to do an internship with a pediatric therapy center called the Turn Center.

The Turn Center offers speech, physical and occupational therapy to children in need of services. What I am hoping to gain from this experience is confidence. Confidence in myself as a clinician to my future clients. I also want to have information that will benefit me in achieving the acceptance into a graduate program and my success in future therapy sessions. I also want to improve and begin to utilize some of my strengths and weaknesses to be the best clinician I can be. I am bilingual in Spanish and English and hope to be more fluent in my knowledge of American Sign Language. I am very hopeful that this internship will help me adapt qualities necessary to help with all my future endeavors. I want to thank Ogallala Commons and the Turn Center for making this internship possible and giving me the opportunity of a lifetime.
