Second First Blog

Hello, I’m Alexander Suarez and this is my second year as an Ogallala Commons Community Intern. This coming fall I’ll be a junior at Campo Undivided High School.

I was born in Apple Valley, California and when I was five years old we moved to Campo, Colorado. I’ve been here ever since. My community is very small but it has given me many opportunities. I’m involved in student council, Youth Advisory Council, Friends of Rachel Club and 4-H.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about what I want my future career to be. I really enjoy math and accounting; this is what I want to do. I have a passion for woodworking. Industrial arts may be what I really want to do. I just know whatever my future has to hold I will make the best of it.

Our community is very small and there isn’t a whole lot to do. Almost every kid growing up in Baca County does sports. My school is combined with 2 other school to have just enough for varsity sports for volleyball, basketball and track. I also play football for Springfield, a neighboring town which is about 4 times the size of Campo, and I used to play baseball for the same school. If that doesn’t tell you how accepting Baca County is I don’t know what would.

Last year, Mrs. Nikki, my superintendent, introduced me to Darryl Birkenfeld. Afterwards, that lead to my first internship. My first internship was so great that I decided to continue as an intern for a second. I hope that being apart of the Ogallala community opens up many opportunities for my future.
