Hi there! My name is Kelsey Garcia and I am from Lubbock, Texas. I graduated in 2012 from Coronado High School and I am currently a student athlete at Lubbock Christian University. I have been a member of the women’s golf team for 3 years, going into my fourth year. I will be graduating in May of 2016 with a bachelor in Psychology with a minor in Spanish.
One of my most influential and incredible experiences was the study abroad program in Spain that I participated in last summer. In this program I enhanced my Spanish skills and I also learned the importance of body language in communication. I also learned to be very independent while living over there for 7 weeks. It really changes a person’s perspective on the importance of connections and wise decisions.
My greatest passion is helping others achieve mental, physical and overall health. I enjoy creating a helping environment for the people I surround myself with. I spend most of my free time out on the golf course or exercising my artistic abilities by painting. My overall goal in life is to pursue a career in a mental health profession, specifically with young adults. I greatly enjoy interacting with people and helping them to find solutions for their problems. It’s like a puzzle for me. An internship concerning social connections would greatly improve my ability to build a professional relationship similar to the ones I would create in a therapeutic process. I think my internship on setting up a Youth Engagement Day here in Lubbock will fulfill my hopes for this upcoming summer!
