These first couple weeks have been amazing. I have put in a lot of work and time into my internship already! My fellow intern, Kylie, and I have started a community garden. We have many plants growing like tomatoes, peppers, watermelon and cantaloupe. This week I put together a garden bed and laid dirt in it so I can grow some herbs! Another project I am working on is planning a leadership camp. A few Campo High students did it a while back and I’d like to continue it. My whole goal is to teach the kids what it means to be a good leader and why leadership is important. I got that wonderful experience when I was young and I think it’s only right if they do too. For my community service I will be helping out with an elementary basketball skills camp. A project of mine that I am also doing is helping at summer school. This year’s theme is rain forests and I make power points to teach the kids about the four layers of the rain forest. So far I have been keeping up my garden everyday, I planned a camp, I have presented at summer school and I have so much more ahead like organizing games at Campo Days, introducing people at the parade, I will set up an oral history interview before the summer is over and I will present my harvesting ceremony in front of the city council and school board. See ya on the flip side!
