My Introductory Post

Hello, my name is Kajsa Mason. I am originally from Albuquerque NM but have lived in Amarillo since I was five years old. I am married and have 4 wonderful children. My interests include gardening, botany and have recently taken up plant illustration. I am very excited to have this opportunity to gain experience in a field that I am very passionate about, plants! I have experience in a local greenhouse but the majority of my learning experience has all been hands on. I currently volunteer at the Amarillo Botanical Gardens and have joined a group of like-minded individuals who want to create a downtown community garden that would encourage youths and seniors from all backgrounds to work together and learn new techniques to achieve a healthy sustainable garden. I would also like to combine another organization that I donate my time with, called Food not Bombs, where we would provide a healthy meal to our local homeless population. We would also hand out education material in meal preparation and show a variety of recipes to encourage healthy eating habits. I would also like to educate and incorporate edible plants in a fundraiser event that would introduce the different flavors, backgrounds and some fun folklore behind each plant. This internship would provide me the knowledge and experience that I would need in order to better serve my community and in turn use the resources I have gained in helping our city be an example of what can be accomplished with dedication.
