My Introduction Blog

Hello, my name is Jacob Osborn. I have lived in Friona, Texas for most of my life until I came to West Texas A&M University. From the family farm to participating in FFA, I have a rich agricultural background. I also enjoy solving problems and anything that has to do with numbers. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. I am very passionate about learning, the outdoors, Health/fitness, and engineering. Two other important things in my life are my faith and my family. Without these two things I would not be who I am at today. Some of my hobbies include lifting weights, hunting, building things (welding projects and woodworking projects), traveling, and cooking.

After I graduate from West Texas A&M University, my goal is to obtain a job as a mechanical engineer with a company that has something to do with agriculture or the environment. If possible, I will try to obtain this job in Texas. An internship could help me to reach my goals by giving me insight on how a particular company works, job skills, and the knowledge to decide if this could be a career path for me.

This summer I will be an Intern for James Todd who is an independent crop consultant in Plainview Texas. I will be working as a crop scout in which I will go out to many farmers’ fields, make sure their crops are growing well, and report everything back to James. I hope to gain a better understanding of how crop consulting plays a role in agriculture and the many different things that can affect crops so that they can be healthy, plentiful. Also, I look forward to doing my part in helping the farmers and James have success in their businesses, and finding out if this a career path for me. I really think this will be a very enriching and exciting internship, and I look forward to the rest of the summer.
