My First 60 Hours!

Hello again! My second Ogallala Commons internship has been off to a great start! I have been interning at our local Chamber of Commerce, Haxtun Hospital District, as well as helping local businesses with all of their marketing needs!

My set-up!

The focal point of my internship is marketing, and in these first few weeks I have been able to dabble in many aspects of marketing. For our hospital district, I have designed graphics for the Facebook page, as well as scheduling regular Facebook posts promoting local events. I was recently given access to Adobe Design software, and I have been utilizing that to create logos for local businesses! I am an admin of our Chamber of Commerce Facebook group and I schedule interactive posts to increase engagement in the group.

At the Ogallala Commons orientation retreat in June, we learned the importance of setting goals, and how it’s crucial for the success of your internship to set attainable goals. I set goals in three categories: communication, leadership, and expanding professional my professional network.

For my communication goal, I am going to design at least 5 logos for local businesses. In order to do this, I will need to effectively communicate with the business owners to design a  logo that meets their criteria. In the leadership category, I am going to work one on one with 3 of my peers on how to become a leader. Finally, for expanding my professional network, I am going to attend at least 2 local professional networking events, and network with 5 people (or more) at each.

Talking about S.M.A.R.T goals at our RPD kickoff- a local networking event.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Higinbotham trust for their generous donation to the Haxtun Chamber of Commerce. A piece of this donation went to providing me with a MacBook Air, as well as Adobe software for my internship. I am extremely grateful for their donation and will be utilizing these tools to give back to my community.
