My name is Emma Engler, and I am from Amarillo, Texas, where I have lived my whole life. I love reading, writing, photography, and spending time outside with my dogs. My idea of a perfect Saturday would either be at Palace Coffee with a good book or hiking Palo Duro Canyon with my friends. Some of my favorite authors are Neil Gaiman, John Green, and Madeline Miller. I also really enjoy watching and talking about movies and television- I am a big fan of anything directed or produced by Taika Waititi!
In the fall, I am headed to Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington to pursue my bachelor’s degree in Biology and Psychology. I am looking forward to seeing and exploring a different, slightly greener and wetter corner of the world! I am very involved with my high school’s yearbook, working as the editor for my junior and senior years. I hope to one day graduate from medical school and become a forensic pathologist. An internship with Ogallala Commons will help me build the leadership collaboration skills necessary to succeed in college and graduate school. My primary motivation for seeking an Ogallala Commons internship is to gain some quasi-work experience in an area of my interest before I move away from Amarillo to go to college. I hope to achieve a boost in my leadership skills, and make some career-driven, like-minded friends. I tend to gravitate toward working alone rather than in groups because it is more comfortable to me, so specifically, I hope to build collaboration and teamwork skills.
