Hello! My name is Sophia Dawson and I am from the small red dirt town of Medicine Lodge, Kansas. I am a 2020 graduate of Medicine Lodge High School where I was heavily involved in music, theatre, and Journalism Club, which opened many doors for me. One of these doors includes a Vocal Music scholarship to Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas, where I am studying Business Administration.
At BCC, I work in the Human Resources Department and serve as a senior Resident Assistant for the female dormitory. I am involved in DECA as Vice President, a club that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management, Hispanic American Leadership Organization (HALO) as Treasurer and also in Student Government Association (SGA). In the fall I will be serving on SGA as Vice President. I am so excited about bringing more opportunities to the Butler student body.
My main hobbies are gardening, reading, painting and music. My father has instilled the importance of travel in my life from a very young age and I dedicate many of my greatest memories to those travels. I am passionate about involvement, whether it be in school clubs, community activities, or church activities, and I am dedicated to encouraging interpersonal development.
After graduation from BCC in 2022, I plan to attend Emporia State University to complete my major in Business Administration and minor in Spanish. An internship with Ogallala Commons will teach me so many valuable tools that will enhance my skills of working with the public in order to make Barber County a better place to live.
