Hello everyone, my name is Shyla Mason and I am excited to be an intern this summer for the Economic Development in Leoti, KS. I live in Leoti and am a senior at WCJSHS. There are a few clubs that I am president of at school. They are the KAYS Club and NHS. Both of these have helped shape me into who I am by giving me opportunities to be open-minded and social. They have also helped me find out what I love, and that is to help others. Recently I’ve been trying to figure out what I want to do for my future. The decision I made is to go to college and major in social work. I love helping out others and making a change in someone’s life. Currently I am hoping to go to Washburn University in Topeka to get my Bachelors or Masters in social work.
This summer will be a great opportunity for me to continue serving my community and helping out. I am in charge of a new program that started on June 1. It is the Summer Feeding Program. This program will give out free meals to kids who are 18 and younger. I get to buy fresh fruit and vegetables to give to the kids that come each day. Buying the food with a set amount has helped me with budgeting and will come in handy in the future. I hope to gain more independence and the chance to help out in the community.
