Hey everyone, my name is Dayna Larreau, and I’m from the small town of Arnold, Nebraska. This will be my third summer as an intern of the Ogallala Commons program. I will be interning for the Arnold Economic Development Corporation with Sandy Hicks as director, which is a nonprofit organization meant to help further develop the community of Arnold. The AEDC is involved in many projects around the town and has made a big difference in how Arnold has changed in the past years. The AEDC fits with my interests well, as I’m majoring in Economics at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. This will be my last year at UNK, and I’m excited to see what the future holds, whether it be working for a large company or finding my place in a smaller setting.

This summer, I will be researching historic buildings in Arnold and submitting applications to the Nebraska State Historic Preservation Office for approval to be listed on the historic registry. I hope to learn more about the history of Arnold and develop my research skills further in the process. Working with the State Historic Preservation Office, the AEDC, and the people of the community will be interesting and the application process will be a learning experience in itself.

I’m very excited to have the opportunity to spend another summer in my hometown with my family, friends, and animals. Animals are a huge passion in my life, and I hope to find a way to blend my career goals with my love for animals in the future. Each year interning for the Ogallala Commons has helped me to grow exponentially and I have no doubts that it will be a positive experience this year as well.
