Hello, my name is Jansyn Van Horn and I am from Larned, Kansas. I am currently a sophomore at Fort Hays State University where I am studying nursing. I have always had the passion of becoming a nurse because I love the care and compassion that is put into the career. Going into college I had 27 credit hours that I took in high school so that I would be able to go into the Nursing program earlier. I plan on applying for the Spring 2016 semester next fall after I finish all of my prerequisites. To further help me in my nursing career I have already obtained by Certified Nurse’s Aid certificate and my phlebotomy certification. Below is a beautiful picture of Stroup Hall that is the nursing building at FHSU. I cannot wait to spend all day in this building taking classes and doing labs.
Growing up in a small town I was involved in activities in and out of school. In school I played basketball, ran cross country, was a cheerleader, and a member of the color guard team. I was also a member of National Honors Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and on the Student Council. My favorite activity out of school that I was involved in was 4-H. Growing up in a family that cares so much about 4-H and and being leaders helped me to learn how to become a great leader. I was a junior leader in the sheep and beef projects for 5 years where I helped younger members in my club with any problems or questions that they encountered. To this day I still show sheep nationwide.
One of my goals this summer is to learn how a nurse can benefit a small community hospital. I am excited to learn more about nursing and all of the different areas that are offered in the field. I also hope to learn more about the community of Stafford where I will be doing my internship.
