Introduction Blog ~ D. Maldonado

Born and raised in Amarillo, Texas, Delores dreamed of traveling the world, seeing and experiencing everything she had read about in books and seen on TV.
Upon leaving high school she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. A decade in “Sin City” helped feed that dream. Las Vegas is also a place the world travels to; thus giving her a taste of intercontinental exposure without the airfare. While working at night in Casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, Delores had plenty of time to pursue her interest in Photography. She started working at Sampsel and Preston, one of the leading commercial photography studios in Las Vegas. Working her way up from studio runner, to dark room printer, to photographer assistant and soon she was booking her own photography jobs. In Las Vegas, surreal is the norm, so nothing seemed impossible. For example, Delores assisted the world famous photographer Annie Leibovitz in the “Got Milk” campaign. Along with freelance magazine work locally and nationwide she photographed many famous acts and performances at the House of Blues and Hard Rock Casino.
Delores moved back to her home town of Amarillo, Texas in 2004 and with the shortage of rock stars and showgirls she had to reevaluate her position as an artist, after some tough personal losses and quite a few slices of humble pie that only a small town can dish out, Delores decided to share her passion for art and photography with others through education, teaching as well as becoming a student herself. Delores graduated WTAMU in 2014 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Art Education, she is active in the community teaching, creating, and advocating the arts.
