Gaining experience through the NBIII Foundation

IMG950410DSCF0867Hello, my name is Kelcey Tate. I am from Albuquerque, New Mexico. I am Navajo and many of my family members live on the Navajo reservation in Arizona. I am going to school in Phoenix at Grand Canyon University. I play golf for the University and have one year left until I graduate. I am looking forward to starting my journey after college. I have plans to go to graduate school and hopefully find another internship to gain experience next year. My major is accounting and I have enjoyed taking all the classes associated with getting my degree. I am looking forward to my last year at GCU because I am ready to finish!  I have many different hobbies including cooking, reading, sewing and any type of creativity. I am interning with the Notah Begay III Foundation that is located in Bernalillo, NM. The NBIII Foundation creates programs for the youth that center around creating health and nutrition in the community. These programs help children learn about staying active and maintaining a healthy diet. Since obesity is at all-time high, these programs can help change this current trend in the Native American communities. I have worked with the NBIII Foundation for the past couple of summers specifically with the golf program. This summer I will be working with other areas of the foundation. I hope to gain some experience with the nutrition programs as well as the accounting department. I would like to use what I have learned in school and gain experience with the accounting area of the foundation. My main goal is to help some of these kids realize there is opportunity for learning and maintaining a healthy lifestyle as they grow.
