I am Karlie Novian from Pampa, Texas. I am currently in nursing school at West Texas A&M University and will start my senior of school in August. I will graduate in May 2015 with a BSN degree. After this spring semester, I fell in love with the newborn nursery and pediatrics and hope to end up in one of these areas after I graduate. So far, I have gained experience from working as a CNA for a year at BSA hospital in Amarillo and from clinical hours completed during my first year in the nursing program.
This summer I will be interning for the Pampa Regional Medical Center. From this internship I hope to gain some practice in basic nursing skills that I can carry with me to my final year of school as well as to my future job. I hope to gain leadership skills and confidence in my role as a nurse upon completion of this internship. Each week I will be rotating to a new floor at the hospital. This internship is allowing me a chance to work on floors that I have not yet experienced during my school clinical hours. I will be shadowing nurses and given multiple opportunities to ask questions and observe different procedures; as well as gain hands on experience.
I hope this internship opens up opportunities for me in the future and allows me a chance to “get my foot in the door”. I cannot wait to begin!
