High Schoolers Find Career Options Locally
October 30, 2015

IMG_2317Ogallala Commons organized another Youth Engagement Day in early October over at Floydada, TX.  The event was held in the high school gym, with groups of students from 6 area schools.  An entrepreneur panel excited the gathering with enterprises that involve growing lavender as a sellable product, using skills in fiberglass manufacturing to craft a popular local icon, and how to manage several operations at once while living in a rural community.  Another inspiring session was Speed Career Exploration, in which students discovered job options in electricity generation, local trades, health careers, and growing food for local markets.  IMG_2310At the end of the day, educators and community leaders were pleased with this unique learning opportunity for youth.

In November, OC has 4 Youth Engagement Days scheduled: Clovis, NM (Nov. 4), Lamar, CO (Nov. 17), La Junta, CO (Nov. 18) and Gonzales, TX (Nov. 23).  You can see additional photos from these events at OC’s Facebook.
