I’ve gone over the Garden City Commonwealth twice before, but this community is larger than just a few blogs, and it grows faster by the day. A sense of place is the backbone in this old community which welcomes new peoples with open arms. This is shown by the variety of food and grocery shops around town, and in the history carried by its buildings. I’d like to expand on this sense of place and to the spirituality of our community.
We can consider the coffee shop Central Cup, which is a personal favorite of mine. This shop is more recently opened but has provided a place to relax and enjoy. As well, a game zone is right nearby for families to come on Fridays and enjoy together
For spirituality, I’d like to talk about a church I’ve helped at multiple times over the years, La Iglesia Bautista del Sur. While this is not my church, I’ve been partnering with them during their summer meals program since before I graduated high school. This is a place that offers community and play for children while providing aid to all who come, and I am glad I have been able to help them through these years.
Moving forward, I hope I can continue to be part of this community in the future, as it has been a home for me and many others.
