Francine’s 2017 OC Work Plan

“Behind every progress there’s a master plan. As for Ogallala Commons Internship, there’s a blog alongside my work plan.” – Frankie, 2017

This year, my OC work plan will be revolved around youth engagement through Youth Leadership Camp with collaborations with the community’s school districts and Gunderson Global Partnership of La Crosse, WI. In addition to youth leadership camps, the School District of La Crosse and Gunderson Global Partnership will be in collaborations with me and Marsha of OC in planning and carrying out Health for Generations Camp for the youth of Kyle and Wanblee and Breast Cancer Screening and Education for the women in the community of Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in association with Susan G. Komen’s Breast Cancer Foundation and Oglala Sioux Tribe.

The upcoming events will be started off with Youth Leadership Camp in July 11th-14th in Kyle and Wanblee area. The youth will learn leadership skills and enjoy activities such as mock presentation of sharing ideas to better the community. The following week will be for the trip to La Crosse, Wisconsin for the Health for Generations Camp. A handful of youth whom attended the Youth Leadership Camp will have opportunity to explore health & wellness with more activities and guide around the area’s health centers. Also, the associates of Gunderson Global Partnership will be providing training for Marsha and I to have us ready to begin recruiting women of our community for breast cancer screening and education.

The experience leaves me in anticipation in making a difference in my community.
