I want to start off saying that I have never kept a journal or blog before, I think doing so will benefit by documenting an entire summer so I can reflect back on my experiences. My name is Steven Contreras, I am 22 years old and from Belen New Mexico. Currently I am studying Biotechnology at West Texas A and M where I will graduate in Spring 2016. This summer, with the help of Ogallala Commons, I have lined up an internship with Todd Agricultural Consulting. I haven’t started yet but am very eager to begin my internship. The past two jobs I have had have been in sales which is much different than what I will be doing for Mr. Todd for 10 weeks. I will be in the field collecting data for Mr. Todd from soil moisture to pest tolerance of crops. I haven’t worked entirely with my hands in a couple summers which I think will be good to get back to working hard and being outside on my feet all day. I have also never worked or have any experience in agriculture. This is the prime reason for accepting this internship, I want to gain knowledge in an industry that I know little about because soon I would like to be apart of that industry in any way possible. My start date with Mr. Todd is June 8th, right now I am taking a class for two weeks so as soon as I finish up I will be heading to Plainview Texas to being my internship.
