First experiences

At Pampa Regional Medical Center, I will be following an RN that will educate me in their department and give me advice in each situation we come across. I will be rotating departments each week. These departments include the Med-Surg. Unit, Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Women’s Health Clinic, Golden Phoenix (the psychiatric ward located in the hospital), Urgent Care Clinic, the Post- Anesthesia Care Unit, Recovery Room, and the Operating Room. Each department has its own set of unique characteristics and demand different skills to ensure the best care for every patient. I have already been exposed to many opportunities that I would not have been possible with the help of Ogallala Commons. I get to observe each department and learn just were each nurse fits in. I also get to learn the “tips” the experienced nurses have to make things easier. That’s not something you get in nursing school. So far, I have been in the Med-Surg. Unit and the Emergency Department. I have recently found a new respect for the nurses in the Emergency Department. They are put in positions that require a very unique set of skills. Such skills include, critical thinking, nursing judgment, and patience while rushing around to get things done in a timely manner but also done safely and to the best of their ability. I noticed its almost like organized chaos in that department. The love each of those nurses have for the patients and their career has given me the encouragement I need to further my education and reach my full potential. I can thank this internship for all these wonderful experiences with many more to come.
