Over the course of several days I have found out so much about my community that I didn’t know. These community assets include soil & mineral cycle, renewable energy, history, water cycle, health, sense of place, spiritually, food-shed, leisure & recreation, education, arts & culture, and wildlife & the natural world. Seven out of the twelve commonwealth assets in my community that really stick out are, the soil and mineral cycle, water cycle, history, health, food-shed, leisure and recreation, and education. For the soil & mineral cycle this is vital for my community because our whole community is based with farming and agriculture. With our community we have many different farms from Sackett Farm, Hollar Seeds,Hanagan Farms and a couple more. The water cycle also goes along with our huge farming system in our community. In order to maintain the healthy produce the people of these farms and businesses have to make sure the water is safe and cleaned. Not to mention that all these different businesses/farms find ways to improve or better the water for the community. The history of the community is also really important to us, we have a little museum that is set up by the library and on highway 50 coming into Rocky Ford from Manzanola we have a little history stand. As to this we also try to carry on the celebrations in the communities. The health in our community has grown a substantial amount due to having the little clinics we have and also the races for running that we host. The environment is great that the community gives off, it gives a very homey feeling to it. It is also a very good place to settle into with a family because it is affordable and small town to where you could be financial stable. Food-shed we have many different places to get food due to being a farming community. Also we do have a pharmacy right in the main street of town to get all the medicine and health care. Leisure and recreation is a big part to our community at beginning and the end of summer. At the beginning of summer we have a festival called “Cruising into Summer” made for all ages with food, games, and booths. Then at the end of the summer we have an Arkansas Valley Fair for the whole county. This little fair just brings our community close because the whole county comes together, and it goes on for a week. Our education is also a huge factor to our community. Due to me going to the high school, Rocky Ford provides me with the education that I want and need. For example in Rocky Ford the community only wants the best for you so at the beginning of the year we have this schooling system called Jump-start it helps you in the areas that you are troubled in. Also at Rocky Ford you are offered many concurrent classes to further your education before you plan to go to college. I do believe that the other community assets are in my community, but these are the ones that stick out and show the most of what the community is and how amazing it is.
