I believe for every community to be successful, it must have the twelve commonwealth assets. Some of the assets that stand out to me are education, health, and history. Education particularly stands out to me, but I may be a little biased since I am a teacher in my hometown. I teach fourth, fifth, and sixth grade math. Education is vital in every community, children must have a solid educational foundation built in order to build new knowledge upon. Every town in Swisher County has a school, if not multiple ones. They are all fantastic schools and every student receives an excellent education. In Swisher County, every school has outstanding teachers that truly care about their students.
Health is also also an important asset because people need to take care of themselves before they can contribute to society and be a successful citizen. The Swisher Memorial Hospital is a valued community asset. The hospital staff is terrific and so is the doctor’s office staff. Almost every doctor practicing medicine and caring for patients at the clinic and hospital grew up in Swisher County. When I go to the doctor, I am more than a patient, they genuinely care about me and want to see me better.
Tulia has an interesting museum, but again, I may be a little biased. The Swisher County Archives and Museum Association focuses on Swisher County history. The museum contains collections of ranch and farm artifacts. The museum displays the exhibits in attractive ways that encourages viewers to be fascinated and captivated by history. It is important to know our heritage so we can appreciate what others before us have worked hard to leave behind as a legacy. We are more knowledgeable about our county by having the museum. Many students visit the museum as well as community members.
There are many more assets in Swisher County but those are just a few that I am interested in.
