The highlights of my internship were mainly learning about agriculture, and all the goes into it and how it works. The main project I did at the red willow farm, was mainly learning about farming and how a farm works and operates as a non- profit. Some of my success were helping plant crops in the traditional fields, me and staff planted the Taos Pueblo red bean, Maricopa corn and Taos pueblo squash. Planting that field was one of the first things I did here at the Red Willow and after it made me feel really good and like I accomplished something great, and planting that field made me really think about my roots and history and how my ancestors thrived on this same land I stand on, how it was and what food they grew.
Doing my internship at the Red Willow Farm inspired me to want to teach other young indigenous youth what they can with the land and how they can see how their ancestors lived on the land. This ties into how I’m going to grow my professional network, I can’t specifically remember what my goal was but going through this internship and learning so many new things from so many people that have an abundance of knowledge has inspired and sparked so many ideas for me, this goal won’t be easy or something that will get done right away, but I’m hoping to turn This into a long-term goal for myself to carry into the future. I believe my communication goal was to be able to take to people better and not get so nervous and in my head, I achieved this goal by working in the market, working in the market has definitely helped me with customer service and being able to talk to people without feeling like I was getting judged, it feels so good to overcome that and now I have more experience on customer service, and seeing how marketing works. My leadership goal was help lead other youth into the direction they want to help my community to the best extent that I can, I have not achieved this goal but this also fits into my professiin network goal, I want to try to start a group to help all these aspects in my community that I seen needs work, I hope in the future I can make this dream a reality for myself and my community, and I hope I can bring all these amazing ideas that I have to my community.
