Throughout my internship, I had many opportunities to serve my community. I enjoyed the community service portion of my internship so much. Those experiences truly solidified my desire to serve people. I had the opportunity to help our local Meals on Wheels group, for 2 weeks. Those 2 weeks were some of my favorites during my internship. Going to deliver all of the meals was truly a humbling experience, and getting to talk with the recipients, for the brief moment was truly amazing. They were so appreciative, and I was glad I got to help to brighten a bit of their day. The helpers there were so kind, and appreciative of the help. They told stories of our town, new and old, and they would talk of all of the friendships they’ve made throughout the program, and delivering the meals. The helpers there were so hardworking and always went the extra mile for the people they served. My Meals on Wheels experience was so great, and I loved it so much. I plan on volunteering there whenever I am able, and I am glad I got to be apart of it! I also had the opportunity to help maintain the local garden beds at our elementary schools. I went out each day, and checked on the plants, and made sure they were watered, and cared for. I also checked on the irrigation system we have at the gardens to make sure it was working properly. The gardens are one of the activities the ACE program uses in it’s after school program. They use it to teach the students how to make healthy snacks with fresh produce! I think it is a great way to get the younger generations interested in growing their own produce. I hope that this is something that continues! I can’t wait to see what happens in the future for these two outstanding organizations, I hope that I get to help again in the future!
