This is my second internship with Ogallala Commons. It has been very enjoyable! This summer I decided to come up with some ideas for the indoor pool in our community. Our pool has been closed now for about 3 years. It was shut down for many reasons, the main one being that there were a lot of repairs needed and there just wasn’t much use. The city got a grant but they felt there was no reason to spend the grant money on remodeling if they couldn’t keep it open afterwards.
In March 2019 the community had a meeting to collect everyone’s thoughts and ideas on what the building could, and should, be used for. I took all the notes made from the meeting and put all the ideas together that made sense. Some of the ideas shared at the community meeting were: making it into a roller skating rink, a fitness area, a rec center, an arcade, a crafter’s mall, and a storage center. At the beginning of my internship, I went around and talked to different age groups of people in the community to get more input on all the ideas shared at the meeting. I took all the ideas and have come up with three suitable plans for the building and used a CAD program to design what all of those ideas would look like.

I have made a goal to ask four questions verbally a day to help with my communication skills. I would like to continue leading this project, which would help me with my leadership goals. My goal for expanding my professional network is to continue attending meetings with Mrs. Nikki Johnson.
I can’t wait to complete this project! It has been so much fun and I’m excited to see what the community has to say about my ideas!
