My internship is through Kade Wilcox’s company Primitive Social. I work with the development team, so I work on projects varying from website development to inputting data into websites for clients. The company builds custom software and manages many clients, so it seems there are always things to do. From the beginning, I have been very impressed at how well the team works together, organizes their projects, and takes on a “divide and conquer” approach to finish projects quickly and efficiently. So far, I have worked on building the website for the Tatum Tough Foundation, completed content migration for ASCO, and done edits for the National Center for Frontier Communities and Lubbock Chorale. Working on the Tatum Tough project has been the most extensive and challenging, but having seen the foundation’s objectives, it’s quite humbling to have the chance to be a part of such a project. Throughout the first third of my internship, I have gotten to explore several areas of development and find areas where I am more talented and comfortable working, as well as finding areas in which I could improve my skillset. Working with the Primitive Social team has been an excellent experience thus far and is setting a high standard for my future work environments.
At the OC retreat, we set our internship goals ahead of time so that we could follow and (hopefully) achieve them. In communication, I hope to reduce my hesitance to reach out and ask for help when needed. My networking goal is to build interpersonal relationships with at least four team members by the end of my internship. Finally, my leadership goal is to take leadership roles on individual projects that need someone to direct them.
