My name is Emily Sharpe. I was born and raised in Walsh, Colorado. Although I am currently away at Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado pursuing a degree in Sociology, I am graduating in a year and my goal is to return to my home. I want to use my degree by working for the Department of Human Services to help children and families in Baca County lead the best lives they can.
I am very passionate about helping kids and have been for most of my life. My mom has been a preschool teacher for thirty years and I have been able to see how some of the challenges have changed over time. I decided in my senior year of high school that I wanted to help kids and families too, just not in the exact same way as my mom.
As I am almost done with my undergraduate degree, I am really hoping that I can secure a position at the Baca County Department of Social Services with the help of Ogallala Commons this summer. This will be my last break to help me make a lot of decisions about the rest of my life. For those reasons, I am extremely grateful for any opportunity I am presented with to gain experience in the department to be able to help the people of my county.
