Blog 1: Biography

My name is Mikey Boyd and I’m from Mission, South Dakota on the Rosebud Reservation where I am an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. I’m currently a student at the University of Notre Dame entering my junior year where I am studying Political Science and Film. I’m honestly not sure what I want to do with my degree, but the dream would be to make a film that portrays my reservation in a positive and hopeful light. I love to read, write, watch films, and play video games. Pretty much what a regular 20-year-old likes to do. I don’t really like to say that I like to follow politics, as they aren’t all that enjoyable, but I follow it enough. As well as my useful skills, I also have a useless obsession with Spider-Man, so if you ever want to talk Spider-Man, please do.

Last summer I was able to serve my community by working at the Food Sovereignty program on my reservation, and I found that I loved helping my community in any way I can. It has taught me a lot about the importance of indigenous food to our culture and health.  I’m grateful for Ogallala Commons and REDCO providing me the opportunity to serve my community. I hope that what I am doing this summer helps my community as much as the experience will help me grow.
