My name is Tim Martinson, I was born in Kirkland,Washington and I have lived in Carnation, Washington (suburb of Seattle) as well as Denver, Colorado, but I have spent most of my life living in Taos, NM. I have spent the last 3 years working as a technology support specialist both for the University of Denver and for a small Taos-based business called School Tech Solutions. Through School Tech Solutions I got to work as an IT specialist for over 5 schools in Northern New Mexico. I plan to one day have a career in IT but I have more that I want to explore before that, including learning to work in a business/office environment. I believe my internship at Taos County Economic Development Corporation (TCEDC) will help me achieve these goals.
My main passion in life is playing and teaching chess. I had a lot of success as a scholastic player at the local, state, and even national level. I am currently ranked as a “Class A” player in the United States Chess Federation and I hope to soon improve to a master level. I have taught chess for almost 10 years now through various chess clubs. I run the chess club for students from grades 5-12 at Taos Academy Charter School, where I attended high school. My goal is to take the club from complete beginners to a level where they can compete at a statewide and possibly even national level.
