My name is Gracie Nicole Smith. I grew up outside the small town of Happy, TX. My family farms and ranches around Castro county. I am the daughter of Leta and the late Jeff Smith. I have an older brother, Luke Smith, who currently farms/ranches around Castro county. I also have a younger brother, Jake Smith, who is a sophomore at Happy High School. My family is a big priority in my life.
I grew up surrounded by agriculture my whole life. I got the advantage of going to work with my dad, who ran cattle and farmed when I was little. I also stock showed sheep throughout school. This taught me not only how to properly take care of animals but also how to work hard regardless of the circumstances. My background resulted in my appreciation for the hard work of the food production process. I know that agriculture is a very important part of what makes our world and society work.
I graduated from Happy High School in 2017. The next fall I attended Texas Tech University and majored in Agricultural Communications. At tech, I have really enjoyed my interactive classes. Last semester I took a photography class that really made me think about a possible career related to photography or photo editing and design. I really enjoy my major and am considering all my career options out of it. I hope one day I can give back to the industry that I was raised in while also becoming a successful member of the working society.
