Bio-Daniel Colunga

My name is Daniel Colunga, and I missed getting my first blog posted because I was enjoying an all expense paid trip to Washington D.C. I am seventeen years old, and I am going to be a Senior at Silverton ISD. Earlier this year, I entered the Swisher Electric speech contest. I presented a speech about my father living without electricity in Mexico. I won a spot on the Swisher Electric Youth Tour to go tour and visit the state capitol in Austin, and a paid trip to our nation’s capital. In Austin, I toured the Texas State Cemetery, as well as the capitol. In Washington, I was able to explore the Smithsonian, as well as other museums. We also toured the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the Holocaust Museum. Also, when we toured the nation’s capital, we were able to meet and visit with our Texas Representative Mac Thornberry. We adventured to Mount Vernon, which was the home of our first president, George Washington. These were all tremendous experiences; however, my favorite was the Lincoln Memorial. I am so thankful for this once in a lifetime trip. Growing up I never would have thought I would be able to actually see these monuments that you see in your history books. I participate in football, basketball, track, one act play, and I am a member of the National Honor Society. Now that I am back home, I have started my internship with Silverton ISD. I have been helping out with the maintenance crew at the school.
