Back from the Northeastern U.S and ready to continue the good work in Seguin, Texas!

Hello to you all!!

betobanjoclub

My name is Alberto Rincón but most of you already know me as Beto, a name  that stuck after being given to me by my sister back when I was in diapers. I am so glad to be back home in Texas after having been in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the last two years working towards a Masters degree in Food Studies. As I completed an internship last year through OC last summer I am so excited to continue  working with OC as an apprentice this year for the LULAC community garden again!

This year I will be focusing on continuing the efforts of outreach to the Seguin community as well as strengthening the efforts to improve the local food system by doing grant research in order to find funding for some of the efforts that LULAC has in mind. These include establishing the historic Juan Seguin school as a social service hub in which offices will be established as well as a site for an additional food bank site in Seguin. I am so excited about this opportunity to help establish some infrastructure for the efforts to improve the food system in Seguin. In addition, I am so excited about the final piece of my apprenticeship which will be under Resolute Health Hospital in New Braunfels where I will be helping them to develop the component of their philosophy dealing with food as instrumental for health by the establishment of a community garden and other initiatives. I am hopeful that after this year I will be much closer to obtaining a job that will build to my career in promoting local food systems through community work! Nos vemos pronto!
