Hi I am Vanessa Beltran from Silverton in Briscoe County. Silverton is very small and has a school with 170 students. Even though we are super small I am so fortunate to be here and have more opportunities in school. I am 16 years old. I am very into fashion and makeup, and I’m definitely on the girly side! Knowing that I definitely knew I wanted to do something with fashion. Fashion is a huge part of my life I love every part of fashion, I include it in my everyday style from clothing to the same colored jewelry. I have a mom and dad and an older brother. My sibling is 8 years older than me, he graduated from West Texas A&M and is now my Spanish teacher at my school.
I have been in 4-H for 6 years and I have loved everything in 4-H. 4-H has given me so many opportunities that I would have never had if I had never joined 4-H. I am now going to be a cheerleader for our school and I am so excited. I have done stock shows for 4 years and it’s one of the best opportunities that I have had ever. My mom is a babysitter and she babysat these two little girls named Maisy and Ressy. Their mom was our county agent, Molly Forman, and she gave me the opportunity to participate in the stock show, I have now been showing lambs for 4 years with them. In 4-H i have done Duds to Dazzle, Food Challenge, Entomology, Meats Judging, Photography, and Consumer. Last year I got to go to 4-H Sate round up. We got to compete in Entomology and we got 3rd place in state. Round-up was so fun and I got to meet so many new people.
This year we got to go to state for Meats Judging but we did not advance we said we would try harder next year. I have also been a Healthy Texas Youth Ambassador for 3 years. I help with anything that our county agent needs me to. I help with food challenge and duds to dazzle practices every week after school. I have participated in LGEG and Color me kids. My grades are all in the A’s and are high enough that I get to help with all of those things. Now that I am an intern here in Briscoe I get to help with so much. I have worked almost every day of the week and have helped with our community garden, exercise, all of the 4-h camps, organizing many things, and helping around with anything. Overall I have loved everything that I am involved in.
