My name is Shelbie Martin, I grew up on a farm in Happy Texas. My dad likes to say we are “part time farmers” we plant wheat, hay grazer, and sweet corn on occasion. We also have around 20 head of cattle that we feed out and breed. From the 3rd grade until I graduated I was a member of the Happy and Swisher County 4-H clubs, I showed sheep and did just about every 4-H project available. I will be a sophomore at Tarleton State University this next fall, I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Communications. I am involved in the Tarleton BSM and in the Tarleton ACT (Agriculture Communicators of Tomorrow), I have also been a part of the Tarleton Players a theater group on campus. Growing up on the farm I realized my passion for being in the agriculture field at a young age, I want to be an advocate for agriculture and work towards a better relationship between farmer and consumer. This internship will allow me to work in different agriculture areas in my community to see all that Swisher County has to offer. It will also give me the opportunity to see what field I may want to specialize in as I continue working towards my degree.
