Hello Ogallala Commons community! My name is Cristina Vargas and this is my first internship with the Hutchinson County Disaster Relief Committee. Before I discuss my internship responsibilities, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.
My parents are Sergio and Norma Vargas where both originally come from Mexico. Our family is culturally enriched and proud of where we come from. Although my family has gone through much struggle to be where we are now, I can say that the journey has helped me form good character.
I am beginning my senior year at West Texas A&M University this coming fall. I am studying the field of Communication Disorders and I plan to continue my education for my Masters in Speech Language Pathology. My interest began in the eighth grade when I took a career test and it was on the list of occupations suited best for me. Intially I was unfamiliar with the field, but as I learned more about Speech Pathology, it became my passion. I wake up everyday yearning for knowledge and excited to know one day I will be the best clinician I can be.
This internship gives me the opportunity to gain experience and to learn to empathize with others. Not only do I look forward to become a positive impact in the lives of the panhandle community, but this experience to become a blessing in my life as well. I am hopeful for the future and grateful for the opportunities supported by Ogallala Commons. I cannot thank you enough.
