Hi, everyone! I am so excited that OC has partnered with Baca County to allow me to intern at the library. This is my first year interning with OC and I can tell you, it certainly won’t be the last. I love what I do at the library, which includes, but is not limited to:
• Check books in/out
• Repair books
• Order new books
• Process new books
o Date, card, stamp, barcode, catalogue, spine-label, shelve

I’m also helping Jody, the head librarian, get ready for the Summer Reading Program by making flyers and planning events. Most things at the library are repetitive, so everyday I’m doing all these things multiple times, but don’t get me wrong! It’s not boring or dull, working with Jody and various patrons always keeps me on my toes, and as I said before: I love it!
I did have some trepidation at first about answering the phone and checking out books. Of course, Jody helped me and now I can do those things without hesitation! I’m especially grateful to Jody for helping me get this opportunity; the experience I’m gaining is priceless. Someday I would like to own my own bookstore but before then, I plan to major in Business Management and Administration. The knowledge I’ve gained on the innerworkings of a library has already given me so many ideas for my bookstore. I’m still pinching myself, I could not have asked for a better internship and am already wanting to do it again next year!
Until next time,
Becky Heath
